Planning consent achieved for BESS extension in South Staffordshire

Updated: Oct 11, 2023

We recently received planning approval to extend our Battery Energy Storage Site in South Staffordshire from 2 x 50MW to a combined capacity of 129MW.

One of the main benefits of the approval is an increase in the capacity of the system. This will allow the site to store more energy, which in turn, means that more renewable energy can be used to power homes and businesses. As a result, the site will help to reduce carbon emissions and promote sustainable energy use. This extension is a positive step towards a cleaner, more sustainable future.

Anglo Renewables' Managing Director, James Stone, said, "We are really pleased to receive planning consent to extend the capacity of this scheme within the footprint of the original applications. South Staffs Council has been proactive in supporting and consenting these projects which will help the UK achieve our goal of Net Zero. The scheme is not subject to extensive connection delays seen within the industry and we look forward to seeing the projects progress to the next stages over the coming months."
